Animal Control Repairs! Animal Control County Facility

On Friday, Sept 5th, Animal Care and Control will begin some much needed renovation. The walls in the kennels are peeling and at least three different colors of epoxy sealant type paint are exposed.

The chipped paint can be a holding area for disease and must be reconditioned. In order to repair this, not only will the kennels have to be pressure washed, but will also require the use of muriatic acid, a very powerful chemical.  This chemical is used to strip the existing paint to prevent further flaking and to ensure proper coating of the cement by the new epoxy layer.  Due to the strong fumes generated by these materials (and the need to have empty kennels for the cleaning, application, drying and curing processes of the epoxy).

*****The shelter will have to close for 9 days.  During this time all of the existing animals will require temporary housing.

*****If you would be willing to keep an animal safe at your home, please contact or visit Watauga County Animal Care and Control for more information.  The shelter is located at the end of Landfill Road (past the waste and recycling convenience center) behind University Nissan on Hwy 421.  Shelter hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (closed from 11:30-12:30 for lunch).  The phone number is 828-262-1672.
